Our Activites

We are continually looking for ways to meet Jesus, and meet the spiritual, emotional and material needs of the women, teens and girls of El Callejon.  Here are our current ongoing activities:
Singing praises to God with the Women's Group.
Women’s Group (Approx ages 30 – 60) Meetings twice a week allow the women of El Callejon to come together for times of fellowship, worship, Bible study, and crafts.  We have started 2012 focusing on three areas for health and growth - Physical, Emotional and Spiritual.

Young Women’s Group (Approx ages 19 – 29)
A Bible study/craft time once a week provides a place for these young wives and mothers to bond with each other while learning how to live for Christ in their relationships with their husbands and children, and others.  Like the older women, in 2012 we are focusing on Physical, Emotional and Spiritual health and growth.

Bible study with Adolescents
Adolescents' Groups (Ages 14-19)
Two groups of teens meet once a week for Bible study and activities.  We have started 2012 talking about why it is important to have goals, and the importance of being rooted in Christ.

Treces (Age 13)
We have a large group of thirteen year olds this year.  Like 'tweens' in other places, they face the challenges of being both little girls and adolescentes.  In 2012, we want to show them they are precious to God, and He desires they make good choices for their lives.

Pre-adolescent Group (Ages 11-12) This growing group of young girls meets once a week for a Bible lesson, games and crafts.  Our 2012 focus is helping them learn more about God's Word, including memorizing verses and connecting Biblical truths in simple ways.

Home visit, outreach team, and delicious food!
Little Girls’ Group (Ages 8-10) The younger girls come once a week to hear a Bible story, play, and enjoy being loved and encouraged.  We are teaching basic Bible stories in 2012, beginning at the beginning with the story of Creation.

Home Visits Along with inviting the women, teens and girls to come to the Social Work site, we also go out to visit them in their homes.  This is an opportunity to sit and hear their stories, in their own words, in their own places.  It helps give us an idea of what they experience day-to-day.
Sometimes we sit and talk, sometimes we join in cleaning with the women, other times they gift us by showing us how to cook some of the delicious Dominican foods.   We also get to eat a yummy meal in the community!
When teams come down to for outreaches, this is always one of the highlights of their time.  It is difficult and can be heart-breaking to sit and hear the stories, but it is also a way to share Jesus, and to enter, in a small way, into their reality for just a little while.

Outings and Parties
The women and girls go on different outings to area cities and even to the capitol, Santo Domingo.  These provide fun times to hang out and have a break from the day-to-day life in the community.

Holidays are celebrated with parties in which everyone is involved.  Women bring snacks, participate in games, and enjoy time together.
Despite the hardships of their lives, these outings and parties are a reminder that they are loved and cherished, invited to the banqueting table of our loving Father.
